Wiki's In Wonderland

Here's my quick upshot of the "Wiki World"
Likes:
I like the fact that they level the playing field for web designers and web novices, particularily because I am a super sonic novice! I think that the subject guides are good because a Wiki allow them to be easily updated. Annotating the Catalog is a useful tool to get more information on a subject and having extra content helps patrons when they are trying to find a particular (or obscure) subject. Community Wiki's are like a one-stop shop for community info. I think that the ALA New Orleans Wiki was helpful in getting info on how to get around, provided information about the different conference seminars and also provided information on dining and lodging in the area. Wiki's For Librarians are great for collaborating, my fav library Wiki was the Princeton Public Library- I would use this to get a quick review of a book or to find out more about a book a patron (or myself) might be interested in.
Dislikes:
When I went into "What Is A Wiki" I found out more of the "negative" aspects. Library Success now asks for e-mail confirmation becasue of vandalism to the site. I think that there are alot of honest folks who will use and collaborate on a Wiki, but to the same degree I think that it is a bit too vulnerable to ...how shall I say..."less than honest and respectful" folks. I would probably not use this too much personally for this reason (besides the fact that I am a control freak and would have a difficult time with someone "editing" all my devoted time and effort)
All in all I found this very informative.

Dan Fogelberg Tribute

This year we have been performing alot of Tribute Concerts for two great singer-songwriters who helped put Colorado on the map (so to speak). John Denver and now Dan Fogelberg. It's hard to believe that Dan has passed, his music (along with John's) was the reason I picked up a guitar and started warbling out my first songs (painful, still have them on tape...think high pitched shower singing!) Our tribute up in Nederland two weeks ago went really well, alot of hard core Dan fan's showed up. I am going to enjoy blogging and will most likely find it a useful tool in terms of connecting with other singer/songwriter's....maybe theres even a group of us out there "librarian-singer-songwriters".
